One of the most important developments in the field of special education in recent years has been the forging of links between special and ordinary schools. This report looks closely at the form those links take, drawing together data from questionnaires sent to 400 special schools and nine detailed case studies. It examines the ways in which special and ordinary schools can work together for the benefit of pupils, and discusses how this cooperation can enable an interchange of ideas, resources and expertise. This book should be of interest to /OREAD.
The implementation of the 1981 Education Act means that schools have had to adapt and expand their provision for all pupils with special educational needs. This results in increased pressure on local education authorities to provide comprehensive support services. "Supporting Ordinary Schools" reports on practice in a number of local authorities and examines the range of support services available to ordinary schools. It documents current and emerging practice and analyses the implications for schools and local authorities.
