Mild-mannered vegetarian vampire, Count Alucard is back, and this time he's up to some rather unusual tricks. Seeking refuge at a Magic Society's annual get-together, he finds himself up on stage with his old chum Henry Hollins as assistant, attempting a vanishing act out of his very own coffin.
Lost on a camping holiday abroad, Henry Hollins and family find themselves camping near a crumbling castle called ALUCARD. Noting the reverse spelling of the name, Henry explores the castle where he meets Count, who sometimes changes into a fruit bat, is vegetarian and quite appalled by his ancestor's antics.
Enjoying another bizarre holiday adventure, Henry Hollins is now in Camelot, where a great dragon-hunt is in progress. It's Henry who persuades King Arthur and his knights to think about conservation.
Henry Hollins finds an egg. Believing it to be that of a dinosaur, he smuggles it home but the BBC pronounces it a fake. It hatches however, and the dinosaur remains a secret until carnival day when it heads along the motorway towards the sea with Henry on its back. The author has also written "The Inflatable shop", "The Last Vampire", "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hollins" and a television series for Granada, "The Return of the Antelope".
Albert and Emily Hollins and their son Henry are on holiday at Cockleton-on-Sea. His parents are happy enough, but Henry is bored - until one particularly wet and windy day, when he steps into Samual Swain's inflatable shop, just as a great adventure is about to start.
