Carole Hanson has always wanted a brother or sister. So she should be delighted when her father tells her that thirteen-year-old Marie Dana will be staying with them for two weeks while Mrs. Dana is out of town. But instead of being happy about her "temporary sister", Carole can barely contain her jealousy. Colonel Hanson is making a big fuss over Marie; and Stevie and Lisa are planning a big party for Marie in the hay loft at Pine Hollow.
Will Carole manage to put aside her jealousy before Marie's visit is over? Not until she discovers some common ground in the stables at Pine Hollow...

Lisa Atwood has joined a community theatre and landed the lead in a forthcoming production of Annie. It's fun rehearsing the part with other members of the cast, especially Hollie, who's been coaching Lisa backstage. When Carole Hanson and her father travel to Minnesota to visit relatives, Carole has the perfect opportunity to work on a school assignment to create a family tree. Ever since her mother died, Carole has been curious about that side of the family, especially about an ancestor who journeyed North along the Underground Railroad.
Then Carole discovers a secret lurking in her family tree, and she begins to question where she's come from. Do bloodlines matter as much with people as they do with horses? Carole discovers the answer when a dangerous horseback ride threatens the life of one of her relatives.

But before Stevie can find a name for the beautiful mare, her happiness is abruptly shattered. During a Pony Club exhibition, another girl claims that No-Name was stolen from her family's barn. Book 41
When Veronica diAngelo, a rider at Pine Hollow Stables, discovers that her stirrup leathers have been cut before a hunter jumping exhibition, everyone assumes that practical joker Stevie Lake had something to do with it. After all, Stevie recently served her friends pancakes made out of plaster of Paris, and it's a well-known fact that Stevie and the rest of The Saddle Club can't stand Veronica.
But would Stevie try to sabotage another rider - and risk injuring her valuable Arabian? If Stevie didn't cut Veronica's leathers, then who did? Is it the work of a 'witch' at the stable who's trying to jinx Veronica? And will The Saddle Club ever manage to clear Stevie's name?

When Judy Barker, the Pine Hollow veterinarian, offers Lisa a chance to visit the stables at the racetrack, Lisa jumps at the opportunity. She's been working on her skills as a photographer, and she'd love to take pictures of some of the Thoroughbreds - especially a beautiful mare that's training for the upcoming Preakness race.
Then Lisa, Carole, and Stevie learn that one of the racehorse owners may be using drugs illegally to improve his horse's chances of winning. And one of Lisa's photos may supply the proof of this crime that the authorities are looking for...
