This 1910 adventure story, the first of the popular series about a teenage boy, showcases Tom Swift's ingenuity and mechanical aptitude. The action takes off when a group of scoundrels set their sights on stealing Tom's father's newest invention, a turbine engine. This book is a wonderful window on life in America at the beginning of the twentieth century. The main character embodies the positive traits of courage, ingenuity, hard work, determination, honesty, virtue, and service to others. Tom Swift was a popular American fictional hero who had a profound influence on the young people of the time. The story has been completely revised to eliminate racial and gender bias which was unfortunately evident in the original story. None of the excitement or the twists and turns of the adventure have been diminished. The Riverflow Heritage Classic series presents classic books, revised for today's students. The positive message of these books is one which can and should be appreciated by today's youth.

He, his father and his best friend, Ned Newton try to go on a vacation but soon run afoul of the same gang of thieves that stole Mr. Swift's secret invention in volume 1. These stories have been enhanced with more science and mechanics than the originals, and have been rewritten to remove racially-insensitive material and situations.

An unscrupulous company with their own submarine try to make trouble for the Swifts and their friends, and want to reach the treasure to claim it for their own. Even if Tom and his crew successfully battle the other sub, giant sharks, a firing squad and all the other hazards to be found over two miles deep, will they actually find the treasure?

Tom Swift and His Aerial Warship, or, The Naval Terror of the Seas, is Volume 18 in the original Tom Swift novel series published by Grosset & Dunlap. The story was written in 1915, and World War I, known as The Great War, was already in progress. As the story opens, Tom is explaining his newest invention to his friend, Ned Newton. Just as Tom is in the middle of explaining the problems he is having, a fire erupts in one of the sheds, where explosives are stored. After the fire has been put out, careful investigation shows that the fire was set deliberately. In preparation for presenting his new airship to the United States Government, Tom has invited a Lieutenant Marbury, from the Navy, to review his ship. Marbury informs Tom of a possible plot against Tom and his inventions, past and present. Tom scoffs at the idea, but soon finds out otherwise, as his new airship is hijacked by foreign spies with an unknown agenda.

Now he wants Tom's help to recover the gold, under the guise of both financing the expedition as well as rewarding Tom with a portion of the recovered treasure.
