Refractive Indices of Solids (SpringerBriefs in Applied Sciences and Technology)
by Stepan S. Batsanov, Evgeny D. Ruchkin, and Inga A. Poroshina
This book highlights the basics of crystal optics methods and refractive index (RI) measurement techniques in various solids, as well as their scientific and technological applications. In addition to new techniques for cases when traditional techniques are impractical, such as for highly refracting powders, anomalous dispersion of light in the studied solid, or for colloids, it also describes conventional methods of RI measurement.
This book is an outgrowth of my interest in the chemistry of sedimentary rocks. In teaching geochemistry, I realized that the best examples for many chemical processes are drawn from the study of ore deposits. Consequently, we initiated a course at The University of Cincinnati entitled "Sedimentary Ore Deposits," which serves as the final quarter course for both our sedimentary petrology and our ore deposits sequence, and this book is based on that teaching experience. Because of my orientation,...
Traitement de l'Acide Phosphorique Par La Flottation (Omn.Univ.Europ.)
by Abdellah-G
There has long been interest in the flow of fluids through permeable aqui fers. Stratigraphic trapping of oil and gas by permeability changes in an aquifer and the amounts of hydrocarbons so trapped are major concerns to the oil industry. The variations of aquifer width and geometry and of the positions in an aquifer where hydrocarbons can be trapped by hydro dynamic forces are intimately intertwined in determining the shape, and thus the volume, of hydrocarbons. Perhaps the seminal work in th...
Here is a comprehensive and up to-do-date presentation of the origins, and properties of clay minerals at the Earths surface. The text reviews the relatively simple laws that govern the chemical or isotopic composition and the crystalline structure of clays, and then discusses their genesis and alteration. Concluding chapters show that clay minerals can form in variety of different environments: meteorites, lavas, subduction zones, among others.
Few knowledgeable people would deny that the field of mineral exploration is facing some difficult times in the foreseeable future. Among the woes, we can cite a worldwide economic uneasiness reflected by sluggish and at times widely fluctuating metal prices, global financial uncertainties, and relentless pressures on costs despite a substantial slowing down of the rate of inflation. Furthermore, management is forced to tum to more sophisticated and expensive technologies and to look farther afi...
Beach Rambles In Search Of Seaside Pebbles And Crystals
by John George Francis
Numerous animal groups, whether primitive or advanced, support or protect their bodies by the growth of mineralized tissues. This monumental, two-volume reference work surveys the patterns, processes, and evolutionary trends of biomineralization throughout the animal kingdom from the perspective of the world's leading experts. It presents the reader with a synthesis of existing information, as well as results, previously in published on such aspects as processes of biomineralization, biomechanic...
Sandstone Petroleum Reservoirs (Casebooks in Earth Sciences)
Sandstone Petroleum Reservoirs presents an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to the geology of sandstone oil and gas reservoirs. Twenty-two case studies involving a variety of depositional settings, tectonic provinces, and burial/diagenetic histories emphasize depositional controls on reservoir architecture, petrophysical properties, and production performance. An introductory section provides perspective to the nature of reservoir characterization and highlights the important questions tha...

Thermodynamics of Silicates
by V.I. Babushkin, G.M. Matveyev, and O.P. Mchedlov-Petrossyan
The intensification of the production of silicate materials and products makes a de- tailed theoretical study of the processes underlying their manufacture and service more and more urgent. The thermodynamic method is of great importance for studying chemical reac- tions of silicate technology. Together with a study of the rate and mechanism of sub- stance transfer, it permits obtaining necessary data for the efficient operation of technological processes. The progress of science in recent years...
Introduction to Zeolite Molecular Sieves (Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis, #168)
by Jiri Cejka, A Corma, F Schueth, and Herman van Bekkum
Introduction to Zeolite Molecular Sieves, 3rd Edition presents a collection of the most important results and ideas in the field of molecular sieve chemistry and technology, the most important experimental techniques related to the research activities in molecular sieves, and identifies new areas of molecular sieve chemistry. Chapters start at a reasonably simple entry level, but also covers the present state-of-the-art in the field. Topics covered include structure, synthesis, characterization...
The International Workshop "New sources, novel phases, new applications", the third of the series on "Oxide based materials", was held September 13 to 16, 2004 at Societa del Casino Sociale in Como, Italy. The workshop brought together experimental and theoretical scientists of different origins and expertise to exchange information on common scientific research fields, especially on all those materials whose features and properties depend on the interaction between surface and ionic and/or mol...
