Mark Field spent almost two decades in the adrenalin-filled, egotistical and stressful world of parliament, culminating in four years as Chairman of the Conservative Party's International Office and as a Minister of State in the Foreign Office.  His remarkable capacity for getting into high profile scrapes, most famously with his close friendship with a future Prime Minister meant his name and face were constantly in the media.

His first foray into politics is as a student at Oxford where he gets to know Boris Johnson, Nick Robinson, David Miliband and Jeremy Hunt. It is on a rare visit to his college law library that he first comes across his future constituency neighbour, Keir Starmer, remembering with fondness their early college political skirmishes.

Interspersed within this candid and revealing memoir, Mark reflects on  the challenges and realities of public life and the sweeping changes that have taken place in the UK during his lifetime.
