The Book of Saints is a postmodern literary novel based around the pseudohistory of St. Fagan and spans four different eras through the stories of four strong female characters.
After vandalising an elderly woman’s house and receiving a Criminal Behaviour Order, Tabitha is given a second chance by helping the woman, Marguerite, clear her garden, but when Marguerite dies Tabitha is left a mysterious document.  The document is said to have been dictated by the long dead peasant woman Tavia who accompanied Fagan and Deruvian in the 2nd Century to Britannia to Baptise King Lucius after he had requested it of Pope Eleutherius.
This document runs alongside Tabitha’s story and also contains footnotes added by Marguerite in her youth and uses both fictional and real historical figures to add authenticity.  As Tabitha tries to work out the origin and importance of the document her life begins to mirror the content of the text as Marguerite’s had before her and her hallucinatory experiences confuse matters.
