Acireale is a coastal town on the southern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, facing out towards the Ionian Sea. Nearby are the seaside towns of Acitrezza and Acicastello that look out upon the three great sea stacks that, legend has it, were the great rocks hurled at Odysseus by the monstrous Cyclops. Twenty kilometres away lies the city of Catania, with its baroque historic centre and altogether grittier suburbs. It's an area of extraordinary natural beauty, rich in folklore, which also just happens to have some of the best food in Italy.

It might also be a good place for a murder. . .
