Pen Pal

The first letter arrived the day my husband was buried. It was postmarked from the state penitentiary, and contained a single sentence:

I’ll wait forever if I have to.

It was signed by Dante, a man I didn’t know.

Out of simple curiosity, I wrote back to ask him what exactly he was waiting for. His reply?

You.

I told the mystery man he had the wrong girl. He said he didn’t. I said we’d never met, but he said I was wrong.

We went back and forth, exchanging letters every week that grew increasingly more intimate. Then one day, the letters stopped. When I found out why, it was already too late.

Dante was at my doorstep.

I went in thinking this was a dark-ish romance. In my opinion, it isn’t. It did have some interesting spicy times between Kayla and Aidan, but the heart of the book was the paranormal presence that encompassed Kayla’s house. Was there a pen pal? Yes, but I wouldn’t say it was the main focus of the story like one might think. Most of the time reading this, I was just confused. That isn’t a great place for a reader to be for 80% of the story. Once the fog lifts and everything is explained, it made sense and came to a unusual conclusion.

The other part that gave me a tough time, which I didn’t take into account for my rating of this novel, was the formatting errors. I don’t know if it is just the eBook version in KU, but it was riddled with errors. I’m not talking one or two a chapter, it was every page almost. Those type of errors can be really distracting. Can someone let me know if they had these errors if you read the eBook?
