Now before I go into my review, you need to know that each book could work as a standalone. However, it would be best to read them in order of release. This way one can experience the true impact of the series.
The timeline for this installment ran concurrently with that which occurred in The Price of Redemption. The first half of the book recapped some of the events occurring in book one. Not everyone can handle the scenes in the first half of the book. So readers triggered by rape, abuse and slavery should avoid this one.
The Price of Peace was dark, gritty and brutal. However, beneath the darkness and grittiness lay a beautiful and heartwarming story. I will not mention anything about the plot other than what the synopsis reveals. Its my belief that the story will have more impact if readers go into it blindly. The story hidden between the pages of The Price of Peace is complex and possesses several layers. Layers which need to be peeled away as the story unfolds. The story pulled me in and I could not look away. I ended up flipping the pages of this one so quickly that before I even realised the story ended.
Carrie and Angel are my favourite characters for the series. Now, don't get me wrong I liked the couples from the previous books, but Carrie and Angel holds a special place in my heart. Carrie suffered a lot, first at the hands of the woman who gave birth to her and then at the hands of the man to whom she was sold. Through all the abuse she suffered, she remained strong and determined. I swear the girl had a spine of steel. No matter the amount of humiliating and degrading things he made her do, he couldn't break her.
Then there was Angel. He appeared in her life at a point when she needed a friend. She never knew at the time but he was her saving grace. For that matter they were each other's saving grace. But Angel had a secret, one which would break her heart and make her feel betrayed. From the moment of his introduction I guessed his secret so the revelation came as no surprise.
Carrie showed tremendous growth throughout the story. The first half of the story reveals the pain and humiliation she suffered while In the second half reveals the changes she went through and how she adapted to her new life. The romance was sexy, heartwarming and it will have you cheering for this couple. The past came knocking, but she dealt with like a champ.
Overall a wonderful read!! I loved not knowing where the story will take me next. The Price of Peace took me on an emotional and gritty ride. I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want to stop reading.
