It’s been a few days since I finished reading Allegiant and I’m still sitting here like a stunned mullet trying to figure out what to write - I was that dumbfounded and disappointed in the ending.

I went out and bought Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant and Four all at once so I could read them as a whole. I hadn’t done any “research” on the series other than reading a few reviews on the first book and seeing a trailer on TV for the Divergent movie. I flew through the first two books and really enjoyed them, but am now regretting not reading Four before Allegiant. I suggest reading Four before Allegiant or it’ll be bitter sweet and feel rather pointless.

Now I suggest if you don’t want the ending spoiled you stop reading now, because I’m about to have a whinge about it.

Ok, Ok, so Ms Roth, you give me characters that I love (Tobias & Tris), you put them through hell and make them lose all their family and friends, then for no good reason you kill Tris, POINTLESSLY Kill Tris! Chicago could still have settled the same way, Tobias could still have gone into politics and Tris could have spent her time helping the fringe dwellers. There was no point to it, no lesson to be learned by her death. Her parents had sacrificed themselves for her, she’d saved her city, and she’d lost countless friends, so why kill her. We know life is unfair Ms Roth and you successfully showed us that by Tris losing friends and family, and by Tobias’s relationships with his parents - So why take her from us and Tobias, all this does is make it feel pointless. All it does is say that love DOESN’T concur all, which may be true in the real world, shouldn’t be in book land. Love that ends happily ever after gives us hope, Hope is extremely necessary in this less than ideal world. Up until the point that you needlessly killed Tris, I loved the series, so why couldn’t she just have been gravely injured and taken months to recover instead – Hmmmmmm.

Anyway rant over. Seriously though I really enjoyed the series, Allegiant’s got all the action, adventure and drama of the first two books, I just felt that the ending (for lack of a better word) “Sucked” and didn’t to Tobias and Tris justice.

First off, let's just say that I wanted to read this book for two reasons: I THOROUGHLY enjoyed DIVERGENT and INSURGENT, and where INSURGENT leaves off, I HAD to know what happened next. 2nd: I saw all the one star reviews, many of which contain MAJOR spoilers, and I HAD to see why people hated it so much.

This trilogy has the action and intrigue you would expect from the best of Matthew Reilly or Jeremy Robinson - and the last 10% of ALLEGIANT had me crying more than even the best Nich Sparks books - and I'm a 31yo tough Southern Man.

The ending played out almost exactly the way it had to. I'm not going to give anything away, unlike those "most helpful" reviews, but there really were no surprises in the endgame. The mystery of what had happened outside the fence contained quite a bit of commentary on human nature itself, which as someone with "genetic deficiencies", including Autism Spectrum Condition, it was incredibly interesting to me. I HOPE they can convey all of this in the movie, though I doubt they will be able to.

I LOVED this book, but let's face it - 1) don't read the last book in a trilogy without reading books 1 and 2 first and 2) if you've read the first two books in a trilogy, you're going to finish it out, regardless of what all those "most helpful" 1 star reviews say...

I can understand why people didn't like this book. But I read this regardless of the reviews and the fact that everyone had put the big spoiler in their reviews. So because that had been ruined for me I didn't find myself upset as I thought I would be. I infact found another scene more upsetting and four's struggle with another heartbreak was horrible.

I thought the series as a whole was an interesting concept. I did find some of the books lagged at some points in the story but I enjoyed it.

I loved tris and tobias "romance" and that it wasn't perfect and lovey dovey all the way through and how society affects what is perceived to be correct ways of living. So being a "stiff" and not being able to show affection was an interesting. And to show how the nature of upbringings affect people later in life and decisions they make.

I am sad that it's now all over!!

Now with this book...I was sad that this series was ending and the ending of this book just planned sucked. Well I mean it didn't suck but I was quite sad that Veronica did what she did with this book. This book just like the last two had me guessing and sucked in all the way through.

It also shows that just because you have the technology to control some human beings in a controlled environment that you shouldn't do that because no matter what human beings always go back to the way that we were. Granted not all the times but most of the times yes. In this book we also see some things through Four's eyes which I have to say is pretty entertaining. Tris and her brother Caleb learn more about their mother. Okay the part of their mother that she kept hidden from them since she couldn't tell anyone about her being from the "outside" world and about her life even before that.

We also get to know more about what being a Divergent is really about. Everything about this book is pretty awesome and I say that it is such a good book that everyone should read if they have read the first two.

I'll be honest, wish it had ended differently but I get it. It was still a good book and enjoyed the entire trilogy.

This book tore me to pieces. Veronica Roth picked them up and smashed each one with Allegiant. Then tossed them into the fire and danced disco around it.

The writing is beautiful. The message is delivered very clearly. Every character has a reason for being there and the tragic things that happen to them have a purpose and it adds realism.
I loved it,
until I got to the end,
and then we broke up
I'll need a very happy, sappy and insta-love filled book next to get over this.

I'm going to cut right to the chase. I am torn about Allegiant by Veronica Roth. I was a late adopter to the Divergent series. I read Divergent and Insurgent back-to-back around the Christmas holidays back in 2012. I eagerly awaited the release of Allegiant and so much wanted to know what was outside the City. Now that I know, I'm think I want to go back and forget I ever read Allegiant and just keep imagining what is on the other side of the chain link fence. Unfortunately, I don't own a Delorian or a T.A.R.D.I.S. so here's my assessment of the final book in the series.

Allegiant frustrated me. Several times in the first 100 to 200 pages, I wanted to throw the book across the room and scream. That's how frustrated I was. Why was I frustrated?

1. The switching narrators. I couldn't tell the difference between Tris and Tobias. There was very little difference in the style of writing when Tris was telling the story vs. Tobias. This led to a lot of rereading or flipping back to start of the chapter to figure out who was talking.

2. The passage of time. Nowhere in the first two books was there a frame of reference for when these novels take place. Somehow I got it stuck in my mind that this was happening sometime in our near future. It wasn't until one of the characters mentions that the destruction in the fringe took place over a century ago (along with how the serums were used) that one of my other frustrations was put to rest.

I thought the ending was perfect. It was sad but realistic. It was not what I expected and I think that's why I loved it.

I loved Divergent. It was the first dystopian book I read that sold me on the idea that yeah, maybe I do like dystopian worlds. But I had mixed feelings with Insurgent, and Allegiant only got worse. I finished Allegiant because I'd been on the waiting list at the library forever and it seemed wrong to waste all that wait time by returning the book unread.

Don't get me wrong. Allegiant is easy to fall into. But I'd also known that a BIG THING (at the time, I'd guessed what it might be, but I hadn't been totally spoiled) was coming and waiting for the BIG THING to happen made the story drag. I read Allegiant in a day because I knew if I put it down, I wouldn't finish it.

Tris and Four's relationship in Insurgent kinda bothered me, and that only continued in Allegiant. It felt too typical angsty YA for me. And for actual young adults, their relationship might be accurate for teens. But I'm an adult (boo) and I didn't like it. At the best, it was the old push and pull of anger and miscommunication. Pass.

At times, I lost track of who was narrating. I usually have little trouble with dual POVs and it could have been my general disinterest in the story itself, but Tris and Four's narration didn't seem that different unless they were talking about situations specific to the character.

And... the world. Guys, we get ANSWERS about Tris's Chicago and why it's there and it TOTALLY makes sense given how Veronica Roth has set up the world. But... then... the world/plot kind of derailed for me and got too big and complicated and my brain lost interest.

Let's not forget the BIG THING. The BIG THING pissed off a lot of people and I totally understand why. I've seen the BIG THING happen in another series, and it dampened my enjoyment for the book (and series). This was no different.

But I also want to say that the BIG THING is in line with the character. I see that. The more I reflect on it, though, the more I wonder if it was really necessary. Maybe it was. I'm certainly not the author. But as a reader, it felt wrong and made me want to stop reading then and there.

As much as I loved the beginning of this trilogy, the ending left me unsatisfied. And that makes me sad.
