Daimler dominated the BCT bus fleet for most of its existence. From Birmingham Corporation's first buses in 1914 until the delivery of their last order, Daimler were the chassis of choice for BCT.
The first order for the new diesel-engined COG5 chassis fitted with a Wilson pre-selector gearbox was received in 1934 after a number of trial buses, and by the Second World War 796 double-deckers and thirty-five single-deckers were in service. After the hour, nearly a thousand Daimler CVs were purchased with engines built by AEC, Daimler and Gardner. WMPTE continued the Birmingham tradition and purchased a large number of the later 'Fleetline' chassis.
This book looks at the range of Daimler buses seen over the years on Birmingham's streets.
