The main character of Abigail Tidwell I liked from the start. She was brave, beautiful, kind, and intelligent. I also liked how her father encouraged her to hone her skills and her intellect and not stifle them. Back then women didn't do a man's job, but Abigail breaks through all of those barriers. It was a nice twist. I also really liked Captain Emmett Prescott. Once he and Abigail met you could feel the connection they had. The romance was sweet and went a little fast. Under the circumstances of a war going on I liked how it unfolded.
The supporting cast of American soldiers were also very likable as was Abigail's father. The villain in the story was written well because I despised him from the very first time the reader meets him.
This book is only about 200 pages so it's the perfect one to read in an afternoon. There were a few loose ends that hopefully will be written in another book. I would love to revisit these characters and setting in a sequel.
