This issue of Avengers is a bit different from all of the other ones. You see, T’Challa is actually a brilliant leader (not meant to be a dig at all the previous heads of Avengers). He’s aware that they lost a major support structure when they lost S.H.I.E.L.D. (an event I’ve heard tons about, but haven’t actually read yet). So…he’s creating his own version. Sort of. Their sole job is going to be supporting the Avengers, which is quite a bit different from what S.H.I.E.L.D. did (they did quite a lot more than that, both good and bad…).
This whole issue is about the obtaining and training of the new agents. I won’t say what their organization is, or who got called in. I think it’d be more fun to read it directly…though I am sorely tempted to list out a few of my favorites.
Okay, so the issue did get a little bit weird at times. Vampires and werewolves fighting in space weird. But if you’re willing to humor those moments it’s actually a pretty decent issue. And there does seem to be a reason behind even the craziest moments, which in my book makes it more bearable.
Something in this issue does tie in with what happens in Thor #9. I read Avengers first and didn’t really have any trouble though, so I think it’ll be okay. Though knowing one of the characters introduced during Thor’s run will probably help a lot here.
