Here's a quick rundown. Jack had a terrible...and when I say "terrible", I really mean TERRIBLE...trauma in his past, and he's seeing Patrick, a psychiatrist who has a genuine care for his patients, who wants to help him. Jake is in agony, but he fights any treatment that Patrick offers. He even blows off a planned weekend retreat at a cabin (by the lake, of course) with Patrick and two other patients. Jack begins to feel guilty, and unaware the weekend has been cancelled, he makes his way into the woods for the retreat. Patrick has decided that he really needs some time to himself, and HE heads to the cabin as well. They decide to make the best of the situation, and both men stay.
What happens between the two of them is nothing short of amazing. Without being in an office situation, Jack begins to open up, and Patrick sees exactly how deep Jack's pain goes. Of course, it wouldn't be a love story if their relationship didn't cross the doctor/patient line. This is why I was concerned, but Taylor Brooks obviously put a lot of thought into how she'd write the scenes when the man begin to fall in love. They didn't feel rushed or...I think "dirty" may be the word I'm searching for. They were sweet. My heart went out to them and seeing them together gave me a warm feeling right down to my toes (Am I gushing?). The love scenes are hot and sexy, and there's even a note of desparation in them. This brings a level of emotion that I don't often see in an erotic romance novel.
In the end, they help each other become complete. Jack's new therapist uses a relatively new treatment, and it's really helped him along. In fact, I've researched this particular treatment, and it's helping so many people in "real life". I can't recommend "Weekend at the Lake" enough. Yes, it's a delicious manlove story, but it's also a pure love story. Taylor Brooks, once again, didn't disappoint me. This one won't disappoint you, either.
