Emily, an angel and Matt, her warrior are a perfectly matched set. They are sent to earth to inhabit "shells" to right wrongs and judge those who cause harm. They will always be there for the other to count on and defend, no matter what. For this assignment, Emily is sent down to inhabit the "shell" of Liz and Matt, into Daniel. It's an assignment that will test them like nothing they've experienced before. They will have to deal with human emotions and discover that what seems easy on the heavenly plane is more difficult when you're dealing with the evil that can lurk in even the best of us.
Emily and Matt must learn to deal with all the emotions that Liz and Daniel feel, both for each other and anyone else that crosses their paths. For Emily, it means questioning everything they have learned in their trainings and discovering that she isn't exempt from sin. It's learning that mistakes and sins can be forgiven and you are willing to do anything to save someone you love.
I'll admit, the first few chapters and epilogue had me completely lost. The Emily/Matt/Liz/Jason/Daniel mess was confusing. Even more so was when Emily would go "home" and have very cryptic conversations with Michael, Gabriel or Joseph. But what kept me turning the pages was how Emily/Liz dealt with her feelings and what she needed to do that kept me engaged in the story.
