Let's start with these very irritating love interests. Torrential does not include a pairing that I wanted to cheer for. Sebastian Crane is channeling some serious Season One Chuck Bass. And not in a good way. Meanwhile, May is just so upbeat and chipper. She's definitely one of those people who'd try to hold a conversation while you're reading. She simply doesn't understand boundaries. But she's also a cynic when it comes to love, because there's got to be some balance in her personality. Also, he's super rich and she's super poor. They're just an odd pair.
As for the plot, Torrential is about May getting Sebastian to open up, and he gets her to see that love isn't bad. Fairly standard. But their relationship starts as a bet. May's roommate says she can get her mom a job if she gets Sebastian to open up by the end of the semester. Given how short this book is, Sebastian learns about the bet quickly. Drama ensues, but they work things out. I actually liked how fast that part went. I hate when the drama gets dragged out. However, some random suspense plot gets introduced which I liked first. Then the ending arrived and I was left thinking "what the heck just happening?!"
Torrential was just all over the place to me. Once I got use to May and Sebastian's less than likeable personalities, I did enjoy seeing them come together. Then something dumb would happen and I'd roll my eyes. I'd get pulled back in. Then it would lose me again. But that ending? I really don't get it. And being on birth control does not mean you don't need to use a condom! Come on, people!
