This installment brings us Cash and Kat’s story, whom the reader met in the previous book. Cash Greer grew up in a wealthy and loving family. Kat came to work for them at eighteen years of age and since then, they have treated her as one of their own. Throughout this time, she slowly fell in love with Cash. Unfortunately, it appears she would forever be in the friend zone. So when Gemma suggested she deliver the Cadillac on her behalf, she never hesitated as it would give her a chance to clear her head and hopefully get over her feelings for Cash. However, the one thing she did not count on was the object of her affection accompanying her on journey.
The reader learns of Kat’s past and the reason she became a runaway. Her situation left a poor taste in my mouth and my heart wept for her. No child should ever have to go through such an experience. I admired her resilience. She achieved a lot since finding her way to the Greer’s, but she yearned for love and family to call her own.
Cash was a caring, funny and an overall awesome guy. He had always cared for Kat, but he failed to recognize that what he felt for her went beyond friendship. Watching him recognize how he truly felt about her was a delightful experience.
I had a marvellous time with the development of the romance, which was sweet, passionate and angsty. I have to admit though, there were a few times when I found their actions frustrating. I just wanted to knock some sense into them. Their stubbornness, refusal to communicate, fear of destroying their friendship and failure to see what was before their eyes proved a hindrance to them finding their way to each other.
This story dealt with some heart breaking issues, but the author balanced it out with a few humorous moments.
Conclusion/Recommendation
Quarter Miles is a heartfelt friend to lovers romance which took the reader on a journey of love and healing.
