The words most often used to describe Sylvia Kantaris's poetry are passionate and powerful. Her poems are cutting and touching, funny and furious, and – above all – vital. She isn't afraid to speak from the heart, to take risks. We would have to invent a new word ('Kantarisqué'?) to express the intensely daring quality of her approach even to themes of love and death, which cut her to the quick.
