THE SULTAN'S BOY tells the story of Radu Dracula, Vlad the Impaler's youngest brother, who was reputed to be both beautiful and bisexual. When he was twelve, his brother traded him to the future Sultan Mehmed, in exchange of a pardon for having the Sultan's tribute-collectors' turbans nailed to their heads as well as for not having paid his tribute to the Ottoman empire of the preceding three years. Radu was then taken to the Sultan's homeland, met Boris of Bulgaria there, a future roommate and life-long companion. By his thirteenth year he was the leader of the Janissaries in Edirne. Later that same year, Radu met Mehmed's beautiful abandoned wife and became her lover. He also he became her inspiration to morph into a man and become a Janissary. Together, she/he, Boris and Radu go along with Mehmed in his conquest of Constantinople. They fight at his side in a few more wars, until the time comes when Radu must accompany Mehmed back to Wallachia, Romania, to wrest Vlad's throne from him.
