Some Like It Sizzling was majorly disappointing. The first book is one of my all-time favorites, but this one just completely missed the mark for me. This time we're getting Jenna's story. She's just been jilted at the altar, and her fiance took all of the money, and is being investigated by the FBI. To say Jenna is down on her luck would be an understatement. With nothing to her name, aside from a small personal bank account, Jenna moves back in with her dad and starts taking odd jobs and consigning all of her designer clothes. Meanwhile, she's suppose to be planning her fifteen year high school reunion with her ex, Luke.
I had several major issues with Some Like It Sizzling. The first being what got Jenna into this mess in the first place. Why in the world would you have shared bank accounts and credit cards with someone you are not married or related to?! I mean, I know this could still have happened if they were married, but that's not my point. I really do not think it's a good idea to have no clue about, or any control over, your funds because you entrusted them to someone else. Jenna and Hal were not married, shouldn't she have kept some things in her own name? She also admits to not knowing anything about the comings and goings of the fund, as far as not even realizing their rent hadn't been paid in several months! This makes zero sense to me!
My second issue was just Jenna herself. She annoyed me. She is obsessed with being skinny! She talks about picking at her food so she doesn't gain weight. Her friends and family are constantly pointing out that she's not eating enough, and it wouldn't kill her to gain a little weight. But she takes that as them calling her fat, when she knows she's not even close to being fat. It's like she was fishing for compliments, except that no one is complimenting her because she's being unhealthy. Aside from that, I also couldn't believe that she had no clue that when you're serving someone court papers, the first words out of your mouth should not be "I'm from So-and-So law firm." I think that was suppose to be funny, but it was just stupid. She spent the whole book trying to track that guy down after that.
The fight in Some Like It Sizzling also really did not sit well with me. Of course, Jenna does something to get some extra money to pay off all of these bills that have been piling up. She's on her way to tell Luke about it, since it's not exactly something he'd be happy with, but he finds out before she has a chance. He gets pissed off and claims that she did what she did for other reasons and that she had no intention of telling him. But then he lets her explain, and I thought this wasn't going to turn into some huge stupid thing. Well, it's like he didn't hear a word she said! He's still stuck in his own head with the story he concocted! Even after he talks to a voice of reason who tells him to let her explain (which she already did!!!), he still doesn't accept her explanation. The worst part is is that she apologizes to him! He doesn't apologize to her for being a jerk, but she takes full responsibility for the situation. Are you serious?! She didn't do anything!!!
Some Like It Sizzling wasn't all bad. There is actually a second romance going on. Luke's ex-wife hasn't moved on after their divorce, and she's annoyed at him always trying to set her up on dates. Well, she does find love in the least expected place. I really wish Olivia had gotten her own full book, because I was really enjoying her story. I especially loved her dissertation research! That is something I definitely wanted to read more of!
In the end, Some Like It Sizzling just let me down! I was not feeling the romance between Jenna and Luke, because I didn't like Jenna, but then I didn't like how all of their problems became her fault when it's him who has his head stuck up his butt. I really hated that ending too, since it's my least favorite type of romance ending. You know the ones where one person suddenly and inexplicably has a change of heart on a major decision just to make the other person happy, even though they could have compromised! It just drives me crazy!
