In this funny comedy drama Martin Clunes plays Roy Hitchcock, a hack journalist on a provincial paper with big ideas and an attitude problem, and Zoe Wanamaker (Series 1) and Geraldine James (Series 2) plays Miss Callaghan, his former English teacher and long-time crush…

In Series 1 they meet again and Roy’s private fantasies take on a new lease of life; can he win her over? They are of course very different people and in his efforts Roy joins a green pressure group, helps Miss Callaghan save a tree, and gives citizen journalism a go. But will it be enough? Miss Callaghan’s current lover is the media darling Chad Mann who, Roy is convinced, has more muscles than sense – what does she see in him?

In Series 2 we discover that even though things happened after the concert at the end of series 1, Roy’s not only blown his chances with Miss Callaghan but also lost his job as a journalist and about to have his house repossessed. But when Miss Callaghan reappears maybe things are starting to look up…

Alongside Martin Clunes, Zoe Wanamaker and Geraldine James The Older Woman stars Alistair McGowan, Nicky Henson, and Rebecca Front.

Writer Tom Bagley used his own life as the basis of this comedy drama.
