"It's not going to work", I told my toes as I finished the invocation. "It never works...and that'll be the end of my short and less-than-brilliant career"" Working as a Summoner wasn't the career she thought she wanted, nor was the assignment one she would have chosen, yet Allegra Telford has somehow found herself in a so-called haunted hotel in London, trying to summon a ghost. And, frankly, it's not really working. So, obviously, she is thrilled when she discovers the spirit of a stunningly gorgeous, albeit horribly wounded man, who strangely bears an uncanny resemblance to the tall, dark, handsome man of her dreams. Her frustration quickly returns, however, when she realises that he is not actually a spirit. In fact, he may be something much more bloodthirsty indeed. And, contrary to Allie's own desires (ok, not her desires -- perhaps her reason), he has arrogantly made some sort of alpha-male decision that she's his 'beloved', whatever that means...
