Twiggy was the world's first supermodel. As 'The Face of 1966', Twiggy (born Lesley Hornby) was the embodiment of the 60s look and was photographed by leading figures Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Melvin Sokolsky, Helmut Newton, Bert Stern, Klaus Voorman, Douglas Kirkland and Norman Parkinson. Combining these iconic images with more recent portraits by Steven Meisel, Bryan Adams, Mary McCartney and Solve Sundsbo, this book explores and celebrates Twiggy's life in front of the camera. In her own words, Twiggy describes the distinguished photographers she has collaborated with and gives rare insights into the creative process. From the famous haircut by Leonard to her unique make-up and style-setting clothes, Twiggy reflects on these images and how it feels to be photographed, both then and now. With over 100 illustrations, including works from the National Portrait Gallery, London and many private collections, the book also features Twiggy's personal collections, the book also features Twiggy's personal collection of photographs, snapshots and memorabilia.
In addition, an illustrated chronology traces highlights in her career, including her starring role in Ken Russell's film The Boyfriend (1971), for which she was awarded two Golden Globes, and her Tony-award-nominated appearance in the Broadway musical My One and Only (1983-4).
