Day for Night sounded super fun! And at times it was. Rae is an actress, although not the most well known. She's recently been kicked off the reality show she was starring on, and now she's seeing little grey men. More specifically, she's seeing Greys, like the aliens. No one else seems to be able to see them, so is she hallucinating? Nope. She's just very special, but now it's up to her to save humanity and banish the aliens! The only way to do that is by becoming a vampire. Yep, super weird.

While I absolutely loved the premise, Day for Night didn't quite work out for me. Rae's narrative was kind of rambly and scattered, which is not one that I really care for. It also made it a bit hard at times to tell when things were happening. Is this later in the day? Next week? Is she remembering something from a year ago? Her humor is also one that I struggled with. I could mostly tell when something was meant to be funny, but for the most part the jokes fell flat for me.

What really kept me from enjoying Day for Night was one scene involving a dead dog. There was no reason for this to happen! Rae and her friend go to her sister's house, fish her dead dog out of the pool, and then toss him in the trash can. Yes, they do. That is not how you dispose of a dead animal! Especially a pet! Absolutely not! And it's not even a small dog! It's a Bernise Mountain Dog! You don't just take a large dog, shoved it in a garbage bag, and then toss him in the can. YOU DO NOT DO THIS! The dead dog was a catalyst to Rae learning a loosely related family secret, but there are limitless ways to reveal that without randomly killing a pet and then heartless disposing of it! This was in the back of my mind for the rest of book and was brought back to the front whenever Rae mentioned that family secret.

Other than that awful scene, Day for Night wasn't bad. The ending was actually really fun as Rae and her vampire buddies fight the aliens to rescue her godson. But all that does not make up for the horrible beginning. I honestly cannot get over the dog being treated like that.
