Soils and rocks have many physical characteristics in common: they are highly heterogenous materials with naturally grained structures. Consequently, they have specific rheological behavior such as a highly non-linear stress-strain relationship, a dependency upon the mean effective stress and deviatoric stress-induced volume changes. Given the specific nature of these materials, there is a need to develop specific constitutive models adapted to these peculiar features. This book includes contributions from a range of prominent specialists in order to provide a cutting-edge review of the field of constitutive modeling of soil and rocks including elastoplasticity, viscoplasticity, incrementally non-linear models and damage models. Attention is also devoted to experimental behavior, mainly through laboratory testing on intact soil and rock samples, as well as to the methodology of model parameter identification.
