Chinese born sculptor Chen Zhen (1955-2000) was inspired by the contrast between Western and Chinese culture, and the relativism of ancient texts of military strategy which teach that the winner is sometimes the loser and that often there is neither conqueror nor vanquished. Zhen interprets Taoist and Buddhist teachings within his work as an alternative to what he perceives as the negative influence exercised by the consumer society. His sculptures and installations exude a constant striving for harmony between body and spirit. Miguel Angel Mendo has created a story based around Chen Zhen's pieces. A new life is to be born to the world. The Dignitaries of Destiny hold counsel to decide which woman will honour the newborn. The decision takes time and the unborn becomes impatient. He asks to choose his own destiny and is duly taken to the Yellow Room where his adventure begins.
