Hocking guides students to a thorough understanding of both the formulation and analysis of linear models using an approach based simply on means, which he terms the "Cell Means Model". The first four chapters introduce linear models and develop the necessary theory for the analysis of the model with a scalar covariance matrix. This theory is then applied to the class of models traditionally known as "Analysis of Variance" models, whilst the remaining chapters discuss the general linear model characterized by a nonscalar covariance matrix. This book should be of interest to degree students on courses in linear models with linear regression; analysis of variance at an introductory level is a prerequisite.
