Introduction This book occupies an important place in the Green Economics series. Poetry and the visual Arts are too often undervalued in today's society; the rise in business-related communication has caused some to feel that the best - the only - way to communicate is through 'business-speak' or advertising (or, at a push, academic prose). As a result, visual or linguistic beauty and honesty are sometimes thought less important than monetary value, status and 'celebrity'. This book exists in part to challenge that assumption. If we are to make changes to the world and spread the Green Economics message to others, it's vital that we communicate in as many different ways as possible, since different methods of communication will appeal to a wider variety of people. In order to provoke thought and broaden horizons, we must embrace new and creative ways of reaching people. Using poetry and the visual arts as well as more traditional methods allows us to connect with each other in whatever form appeals to us most. This book exists to show that the arts are a legitimate way to put your point across, and that equality of communication is possible.Green Economics: The Arts pulls together a multitude of strands and connections, not least between the contributors themselves, who are linked by ties of family and friendship as well as interest in the work of the Green Economics Institute.
Their work explores everything from their 'local world' to travel and new places, concentrating on communicating their personal responses to the world around them, and in some cases to the coming crisis too. It is our hope that this book, and future editions of Green Economics: The Arts, will ultimately link all people everywhere, passed on through the generations to get the message out in any way possible. A step towards reclaiming the Arts, as well as Economics, for all people everywhere; nature; other species; the planet and its systems.Green Economics: The Arts pulls together a multitude of strands and connections, not least between the contributors themselves, who are linked by ties of family and friendship as well as interest in the work of the Green Economics Institute.Their work explores everything from their 'local world' to travel and new places, concentrating on communicating their personal responses to the world around them, and in some cases to the coming crisis too.
