Rock Is Hard is the tragicomic story of the rise and demise of SSB, a band determined to top the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Along with manager Andrew Symes, all -five band members share this aim, but with wildly differing agendas. A tale of two halves, Rock Is Hard documents the band's struggle for success and the personal cost as SSB wrestle with heavy touring schedules and the temptations of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. Max Kay began a career in journalism writing his first editorial for Melody Maker in 1981. Over the following years the author's work appeared in numerous UK music publications including Sounds, International Musician and Kerrang. Simultaneously his writing was published in the USA, Australia, Japan, Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium and Finland. In the late nineties the author went on to produce a humorous monthly column for Music Business before moving with it to the UK musical instrument trade magazine MI Pro. And, while the censors still allowed, the column was also printed in US trade journal -The Music & Sound Retailer.
