This is the second and concluding volume of NUPE's official history, covering the years in which NUPE moved to the centre stage of the labour movement, expanding its membership and achieving wide recognition. NUPE was in a position of near obscurity in the 1920s, but it grew into one of the most important forces in the trade union movement by the 1970s, playing a key role in some of the major struggle of that, and later decades. This growth is discussed in relation to the role of union leadership and considerations of organization and democracy, revealing material which should be of interest both to activists and students of trade unionism. Steve Williams is the author (with Bernard Dix) of "Serving the Public - Building the Union".
