A beautifully presented book, Australian Imaginings is an anthology of fifty colourful Australian paintings and fifty-five Australian poems. It is designed to motivate students of English in years 7, 8 and 9 to read, listen, speak and write. Students are encouraged appreciate the elements of visual art and to find connections between seen and written images. There are individual and group activities for every sub-theme of paintings and poems. Some suggested activities cross into other curriculum area: mathematics, science, history, physical education and dance. The paintings and poems are by well established Australian artists and poets as well as some by students themselves. The poems are of varying degrees of complexity, and thus the teacher has the freedom to select according to the student's needs. The idea of applying a performance, display, poem or painting to an audience is strongly supported by Australian Imaginings. Australian Imaginings is a companion to Australian Visions.
