This book is based on the findings from the ESRC-funded participatory project Older Women's Lives and Voices (OWLV). It offers important new insights into the experiences of older women from different ethnic communities and their desire and ability to have a say in issues affecting their lives. Part one of the book reviews the concept of quality of life and the contributions of participatory research methods in examining quality of life for older women. Part two assesses the experience and value for individual older women, as users and potential users of services, of involvement in research. It examines positive and negative aspects of ageing and how these intersect with gender and ethnicity. Part three assesses the strengths and limitations of user involvement policies and, based on the OWLV findings, makes recommendations for research, policy and practice. This book is a must for all those with an interest in ageing, gender, ethnicity, social policy and user involvement.
