This book adopts a socially constructed, 'Verstehen' based approach to first deconstruct entrepreneur stories to understand how such narratives are socially constructed in western societies. The chapters address various elements which make up the subject matter of entrepreneur stories, looking at its philosophical, psychological and sociological building blocks and how these are rooted in deeply social issues such as demography, morality, religion, family, social class, ethnicity and gender. Other building blocks and tools of social constructionism such as semiotics, archetype and mythology are considered. Collectively these elements combine to construct 'the storybook entrepreneur' of popular consciousness. The text thus offers an alternative method of understanding entrepreneurship.
