This teaching resource for A-level and undergraduate Media Studies courses looks at style4and genre through such themes as nation, sexuality, identity, class and ethnicity. The video contains extracts from films such as "The Crying Game" and "Carry on Spying", and the teacher's booklet provides photocopiable worksheets for students, to help them analyze these texts. Links are made between films, and students are encouraged to take a retrospective look through recurrent motifs, such as the Blackpool holiday in "Sing as We Go" (1934), "A Taste of Honey" (1961), and "Bhaji on the Beach" (1933). Each section ends with detailed suggestions for essays, further research and practical work.
