Adapted from Daniel Woodrell's novel, Ride with the Devil tells the epic story of a group of young Bushwackers - Missouri guerilla fighters who waged a desperate and bloody battle against Union occupiers during the American Civil War. As the war progresses, two of the fighters - a former slave and the son of an immigrant worker - find they have more in common with each other than with their fellow fighters, who begin to suspect them of treason. This book includes a foreward by Ang Lee, and introduction by Schamus in which he discusses the challenge of bringing novels to life on the screen, and copious notes detailing how the finished film differs from the production script - and explaining the behind-the-scenes reasons why.
