The battle of Dunkerque is certainly on of the most terrible and tragic episode of the French campaign. At the end of exhausting retreat, about 350 000 Franco-British soldiers concentrated in the bridgehead of Dunkerque and protected by three French divisions in charge of leading retarding fights, will be evacuated by sea, escaping captivity or death. This album proposes to explain this battle through the text and the image. After having related the broad lines of the battle of the North (surrounding of the FrancoBritish forces in North of France), the album describes with precision the fights of the bridgehead of Dunkerque and the boarding in progress.

This album is illustrated by more than 350 pictures coming from British, French and German archives and by present -day pictures of the battleground. The book also contains maps which enable to follow the fights movements. This fantastic document permits to assess better the sacrifice of the FrancoBritish sailors and the French infantrymen, a sacrifice which will favor the Allies success.
