Most of the stories were inspired by incidents, places at home and abroad, and people. All the characters, apart from one, are fictional. In most cases, particular places add detail and character to the stories.
Throughout there seems to be a preoccupation with people who are unsure how they should respond to situations or to other people they meet. Perhaps they are uncertain of their roles in life. In that there is both pathos and humour.
