Following the success of their first joint publication, Industrial South Yorkshire in Pictures, Paul Walters and Giles Brearley have again collaborated to produce a fascinating photographic record of events in and around Doncaster during the period from the 1950's to the 1980's.The book, which draws upon the renowned Mike Walters photographic archive, covers work and leisure activities in Doncaster and the surrounding areas including Mexborough, Conisborough, Denaby, Rossington, Finningley, Edlington and Thorpe Marsh. There is also a special section covering the dramatic gas explosion just before Christmas 1981. This occurred when an oil drilling team operating on Hatfield Moor, struck a huge pocket of natural gas. The ensuing explosion and fire required the expertise of the famous Texan firefighter Boots Hanson and his team, to bring it under control. Mike Walters was the official photographer of this event. He and his partner took numerous dramatic photographs, many of which are reproduced in this book. There is also action from Doncaster Races and the opening of the North Bus Station.
Fascinating scenes of everyday life at Harvesters, British Ropes and many other local companies. Also revealed is just what the Plastics Company were up to in Armthorpe in 1965!
