After reading The Power of Six and realising that I enjoyed it more than I am Number Four, I thought that the only direction the Lorien Legacies series could go was up, but I was mistaken.
The biggest issue that I have with The Rise of Nine is the characters. I'm a character reader and if I'm unable to connect with or relate to characters and understand who they are and where they're coming from, then it's difficult for a book to grab my attention. There are so many different characters and POV's in The Rise of Nine and it's like the author didn't know what to do with all the characters as well as how to make them an important part of the story. There's also no character development. It's no secret that I don't like Number Four. He is so selfish and indecisive. The character that I do like, Number Six and Number Seven, become one-dimensional just like the rest of the characters in The Rise of Nine.
Aside from the characters, The Rise of Nine has the following things going for it:
👽 A plot that goes nowhere.
👽 Mindless action scenes that don't really make sense.
👽 Stupid and half-developed crushes and romances that aren't worth reading about.
👽 An abrupt ending.
Also, where the hell is Sam in this one?!?!?!
Usually, when I complete a book in a series, no matter how much I dislike it or much it annoys me, there's some aspect of the series that will make me itch for the next book. However, after reading The Rise of Nine, I don't feel compelled to complete the series.
