A young, medical savant, named Dr. Duane Shaw, arises from seclusion to announce that he has not only created a vaccine that will successfully prevent all form of disease, but that he will distribute his vaccine free of charge. After successfully vaccinating the globe, Dr. Shaw himself dies unexpectedly from cancer, having never taken his own medicine. Following the loss of the world's, foremost, scientific authority, another unexpected event occurs. One day, nobody dies. At first, the phenomenon is attributed to better health at the hands of Dr. Shaw's vaccine, but after a while, people become painfully aware of the permanence of their situation. Four decades later, the world has changed dramatically in the face of mankind's inability to die, to the point that now they are consumed by it. Will society ever find a cure for life, or must they suffer for eternity the consequences of taking their mortality for granted.
