Every review seems to start with ‘it’s a Kasie West book’ which translates to cute, fun, sweet, witty here and there, a mildly amusing read at the very least.
This also has depth. The story isn’t about the boy. He’s there and he’s a fun accessory. But the story reaches deeper and farther than that, into fear and truth and secrets. And it does it well.
The whole idea of Heath Hall is obvious but it works. It propels the story and it lets the characters explore interesting questions and have revelations. Even if it isn’t surprising in the end.
So, for a Kasie West book I’d say this easily ranks in the top 5. As cute and fun and a little bit witty as you want, and with a little more heat than you expect.
