Many practitioners and evangelists claim to have healing powers, and there is never a shortage of individuals who are willing to stand on a platform or appear on TV, and attest to a healing miracle. But does genuine medical healing take place instantaneously? What real evidence lies behind the claims of people who say they are healed? Peter May investigates particular cases of medical healing in detail and, although a committed evangelical Christian himself, he concludes that no evidence can be found of the type of healing miracles recorded in the New Testament. However, he does argue for a deeper healing of the human spirit takes place all the time. What is amiss, is not so much the evangelists' wild claims as our narrow definition of what true healing is.
