It combines archaeological evidence from London itself, the rest of England and historical sources in order to write the history of London from the Roman occupation to the Norman conquest. Archaeological finds are used to illustrate the buildings and way of life of different groups living in or connected with London. The author is an archaeologist working with the City of London Archaeological Unit.
