I know, I know, you don't see this genre in my reviews very often but when a book is this great I need to share! Especially a book in a genre that I don't normally like. That should tell you something right there. I'm not going to lie, this was a huge cover read for me. I mean look at that cover!! It's gorgeous and that's what initially hooked me in. I was also dying for a new adult romance book for whatever reason and I just so happened to get a request to review it. It was like fate!
I really didn't like Sky at first but her character development made a huge leap and I liked her a lot more after that. I thought that her interactions with Keith were kind of hilarious at times but also really sweet. I also adored Keith from the first scene we saw him in. I felt like I could relate to him a lot more because I'm also a painter and I just felt an immediate connection with him. I liked how we saw Sky struggle a lot in her classes and even in life because that made her feel like a real person. I liked it even more when Keith was around to help her out though.
The writing in this book is just plain gorgeous. I couldn't tell you why I loved it but it just sucked me from the moment I started reading. The writing just made me feel lighter even though there were some darker themes in this book.
Bonus points for being about art students! It's so much fun to be doing the same things your character does!
What I Didn't Like
My teeny, tiny complaint is that I found the little action scene at the end to be a little random. I felt like I was thrown into this situation and I didn't know what to feel about it. Other than that, it was really a great book.
Who I'd Recommend To
I'd recommend this to any YA fan looking to dive into some new adult books. This book makes an easy transition because it's not heavy on the things that make a book new adult. It has a sweet but tortured romance and shows you just how not perfect everyone really is.
