This is a philosophical exploration of the process of mounting a major exhibition of contemporary Chinese art during the Venice Biennale by noted art historian and curator Lu Peng. The exhibition "A Gift to Marco Polo" opened in Venice on June 4th, 2009. As one of its curators, Lu Peng arrived at San Servolo in Venice on May 24th. Over the course of the next two and a half weeks, Lu Peng kept a daily journal that is equal parts travelogue, philosophical introspection and documentation of the process of mounting a major exhibition of contemporary Chinese art during the Venice Biennale. The result is "From San Servolo to Amalfi", in which Lu Peng shares his interior journey as he roams, sometimes rests, and all the while reflects on the artistic legacies of Venice and China in this new age of globalization.
