This is a visual guide to the countryside of Britain and Europe. Chapters are arranged by habitat, and include "The Rocks Around You", "Coniferous Forests", "Deciduous Forests", "Grasslands", "Heathlands", "Mountains and Moorlands", "The Mediterranean", "Rivers", "Lakes and Ponds" and "The Coast". Each chapter describes how to spot and identify birds, mammals, insects, fish and plants, and there are special sections on being a "nature detective". The author has concentrated on those features which are likely to be of interest to young people, with activity ideas and explanations rather than descriptions. His previous books include "The Family Naturalist" and "Exploring the Countryside".
