As part of the "Let's look at" series, this illustrated book aims to encourage children to learn about the world around them and, in particular, to awaken their interest in tractors. The intention has been to design books with straight-forward presentation, lively artwork and clear layout which can be used as first information books. The author explains what a tractor is, how it works and how it has altered the face of the countryside. He looks at the development of tractors from the early days of steam driven engines to modern petrol engines and considers their importance. There is a discussion of tractors around the world, explaining their varying uses in the preparation of soil and in sowing harvest crops. Finally, the book looks at possible tractors of the future. The text is accompanied by a glossary, a further reading list and an index, with illustrations which are considered to be technically accurate and clear. Graham Rickard is also author of several books in Wayland's "Topics" series.
