Being a student should be a really satisfying experience, but this can only happen when studies turn out to be successful. More people than ever before are now students in higher and further education, and many of these need some extra help to do themselves justice in their studies. Although there are many sources of advice for students (tutors, parents, friends, books, websites and so on), most students need tried-and-tested, short, sharp and, above all, practical tips on how to go about whatever is most important to them at any given stage in their studies. This book is crammed with just such tips, written in the down-to-earth, friendly style, for which the author has become renowned. In particular, the book focuses on organising studying efficiently, and preparing systematically for coursework assessments and (most importantly) exams. Students get credit for what they show that they know, not just what they know!
Many parts of the book address the management of the most common crises which students encounter: getting up steam to get going with their studies; keeping going when the going gets tough; meeting deadlines for essays or reports; making revision a focused and purposeful activity; and adjusting exam technique to get as many marks as possible when it really matters. Also included are tips on preparing seminars, making the most of working with fellow-students, putting computers and the web to work, and avoiding being accused of plagiarism. The book is about making studying effective, efficient and, most importantly, enjoyable. It focuses on "learning payoff" - helping students to make sure that each minute of time spent studying is well used and carefully fine tuned to focus on paving the way to success. It is designed to be a companion for students from the moment of enrolling on a course, right through to their final exams or assessments. Furthermore, the book also includes practical advice for students on going on to apply for jobs and performing well at interview.
