This book deals with two research topics, Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and nanomaterials in thermal applications, which are of enormous scientific and technical interest because of their direct implications for improving the efficiency of thermal systems, the implementation of renewable sources of energy and the decrement of greenhouse gas emissions.
The book begins with a general overview of thermal energy storage systems and nanofluids. Subsequent chapters review nanofluids applied to sensible heat storage, nanomaterials for latent heat storage and nanomaterials applied to thermochemical storage. Each chapter discusses the materials used, improvement of thermal properties, fabrication methods, characterization techniques, economic impact and future challenges. The book concludes with a chapter on other approaches including nanoencapsulated phase change materials and new trends in nanofluids/TES materials.
